BETA FEEDBACK (11-30-2020)
Our beta was launched 1 week ago on the 23rd, and we've since had more than 20 fine people play through and provide us valuable criticism and feedback. Thank you to everyone who was kind enough to help us out in the closing stages of this project, we really appreciate it!
Most noticeably (and to our dismay), the greatest and most consistent remark was the lack of direction, and a larger-than anticipated number of people who found themselves lost and did not understand how to progress or how these puzzles functioned. To a degree, we were all expecting this and we were already in the process of developing our "solution" to this overall lack of guidance, but despite our foresight we were still shocked to see how many people were completely at a loss for the next objective. In response to this, we are doubling down on an idea we had for the player character's companion--a little robot that will provide snippets of dialogue and guide the player through the memory scenes. The end goal of our unnamed protagonist, after all, is reuniting with their friend and escaping this puzzling warehouse.
In addition, we are also incorporating dialogue from the perspective of the player character in the main scene to provide subtle hints toward the puzzle ahead. These, in combination with an explanation of the new abilities (which was sorely lacking in the beta launch, and was probably its greatest flaw) should go a long way towards giving the player a lot more direction, without completely giving up the answers.
Beyond that were miscellaneous gameplay glitches that are currently being or have already been rectified (like allowing the player to move an object in the hover/levitate position in any direction instead of just a horizontal axis, which improves aiming and visibility by a great deal). Sound is being continually balanced and tweaked to ensure nothing is being covered up and the soundscape does not clash with the art aesthetic and that the player's actions are not drowned out by the ambience, and art and lighting is being adjusted to fix the lighting and allow for some cleaner-looking textures and environments.
Again, we thank all who provided us with feedback and appreciate your patience and support as we near the final build of the game. Stay tuned!
